Australia VacationsWeather & Seasons In Australia - Best Time To Visit Australia

Australia is one of the largest countries in the world, covering the entire Australian continent and a number of islands in the Indian and South Pacific oceans. It is since several years a rising star on the international travel scene, being visited by an increasing number of foreign tourists attracted by the huge number of points of interest and landmarks such as extraordinary metropolitan areas (like Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Darwin) and unique natural wonders such as Ayers Rock (known also as Uluru, it is an impressive sandstone rock formation lying in the southern part of the Northern Territory, at 335 kilometers or 208 miles south-west to the city of Alice Springs) and The Great Barrier Reef, the largest living entity on Earth (comprising almost 3,000 individual coral reefs and roughly 1,000 islands on a total area of 344,400 square kilometers or 133,000 square miles) localized in the north-eastern part of the country; the best-known city in the region of Great Barrier Reef is Cairns, settled in Queensland on the littoral of Coral Sea.

A such immense country like Australia (the sixth largest in the world by total area with 7,617,930 square kilometers or 2,941,299 square miles) has several climatic zones with different weather and specific seasons.

Australia features three large climatic areas: the tropical region (including the central and northern parts of the Northern Territory and Queensland, as well as the northern part of Western Australia), the desert region (stretching over the central and southern parts of Western Australia, the southern part of the Northern Territory, most of South Australia, the westernmost regions of Queensland and New South Wales, and the north-western part of Victoria), and the temperate region (covering Tasmania, most of Victoria and New South Wales, the southern end of Queensland, the southernmost part of South Australia, and the south-western zone of Western Australia).

The tropical climate is characterized by a generally warm and humid weather and features two seasons, one wet (from October to April) and one dry (lasting from May to September). It features also a season of cyclones between November and April, period when off the northern coasts of Australia are forming about six cyclones per year. The desert region is characterized by severe drought and features also two seasons, summer (with temperatures reaching 50 degrees Celsius or 122 degrees Fahrenheit) and winter, when the temperatures are between 16-24 degrees Celsius or 61–75 degrees Fahrenheit). Even if daytime temperatures are always high, during the night it drop to 0 degrees Celsius (32 degrees Fahrenheit), appearing the phenomenon of frost; another characteristic is the fact that the rains occur rarely throughout the whole year.

The temperate region is similar to those from Europe, with four seasons (winter from June to August, spring from September to November, summer from December to February, and autumn from March to May), but with several specific characteristics: the average temperature is about 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celsius) in summer and 59 degrees Fahrenheit (15 degrees Celsius) in winter; in the warm months appear long periods of heat and drought, while the cold months are milder and windier in comparison with Europe.

When is the best time to visit Australia? The answer to this questions depends largely on the corelation between the visited region and seasons in Australia. Generally, is advisable that the tropical part of the country to be visited in the dry season because of the lower quantity of rain, the desert zone is the best in winter (few people can endure the hot air of the Australian summer), while the temperate region can be explored at any time. However, foreign tourists are beckoned on the fact that in Australia occur frequent bush fires in many regions as consequence of the severe drought and dry vegetation. As a consequence, people are advised to check out the current weather in Australia before they start the journey.

Even if most people go on holiday in the peak season, when prices of vacation packages and room rates practiced by all hotels in Australia are at the highest level, there are also savvy travelers who know that some tourist sites can be explored successful also off season. For example, there are scuba divers who take pleasure in holidays in Cairns in the wet months because the wonders of the aquatic world on the Great Barrier Reef can be admired at any time of the year and most accommodations provide more convenient vacation deals, just like tour operators in the area. Also, there are many tourists who go on holiday to Sydney or Melbourne in spring or autumn due to the fact that the weather is still pleasant, the most important attractions and points of interest can be seen without the crowd from the high season, and most lodgings are looking for more guests and therefore it offer fantastic hotel deals. Finally, visiting Australia is a unique life experience, yet people are guided to plan carefully their trips because the territory is huge and the climatic and seasonal characteristics are very different from a region to another.
