Brisbane is the capital city of state of Queensland and the third largest city in Australia. It is located on the banks of Brisbane River, between Moreton Bay and the Great Dividing Range. The city is named after Sir Thomas Brisbane, governor of New South Wales between 1821–1825, and is nowadays one of the best rated Australian destinations both for relaxing and for active holidays.

Brisbane is developed close to the site of an abandoned penal colony at Redcliffe, 18 miles (28 kilometers) to north. Free settlers were permitted from 1842. The locality was chosen as capital city when state of Queensland has been proclaimed a separate colony in 1859.
