Adelaide is the capital city of the state of South Australia and the fifth largest city in Australia. It is situated on the Adelaide Plains, between Gulf St. Vincent and Mount Lofty Ranges.

Named in honor of Queen Adelaide, the consort of King William IV, this city was founded in 1836 as capital of the only freely-settled British province in Australia. Adelaide was shaped by religious and political freedom that led to many reforms. This city is nowadays a top holiday spot, offering plenty of tourist attractions along with great accommodations in hotels and rental properties alike. It is particularly renowned for festivals, as well as for wine, arts and cultural events, and consequently numerous vacation deals and tours in Australia include this area.

Situated adjacent to the gallery are located the South Australian Museum and the State Library of South Australia, while the Adelaide Botanic Garden, National Wine Center and Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute are located nearby, in East End. Adelaide Festival Center is the focal point for most cultural trips in the city, besides Adelaide Entertainment Center and the smaller theaters and cabaret.

Adelaide has a mild Mediterranean climate, meaning that most of the rain falls during the winter. Frosts are rare and there is usually no appreciable snowfall, excepting Mount Lofty's region and some places in the Adelaide Hills, a tourist area which offers plenty of accommodation in holiday homes focused on winter sports.
